이 설치 작품은 한글 모음 ‘ㅡ’에서 영감을 받아 탄생한 조형 조명입니다. 수평으로 길게 뻗은 형태는 문자 구조의 단순미를 상징하면서, 동시에 동양의 자연과 조형미를 담아냅니다.
형상 자체는 ‘ㅡ’라는 가장 순수하고 기초적인 모음의 선(線)을 구현한 것으로, 언어의 시작이자 모든 발화의 기반이 되는 ‘소리의 가능성’을 공간에 시각적으로 풀어낸 시도입니다.
표면에는 전통 자개를 현대적인 감각으로 해석하여 마감하였으며, 자개의 반짝이는 결은 자연광과 인공조명 아래에서 끊임없이 변화하는 빛을 반사합니다. 이처럼 정적인 선(ㅡ)은 시간과 시선에 따라 유동적으로 반응하며, 마치 언어와 빛이 교차하는 순간을 떠오르게 합니다.
가늘고 보이지 않는 와이어를 통해 공중에 떠 있는 듯한 형태로 설치되어, 그 자체로 빛을 품은 선이자 시적인 기호로 작동합니다. 기능을 넘어선 조형의 역할을 통해, 이 작품은 언어와 감각, 전통과 현대 사이의 새로운 접점을 제안합니다.
This installation is a sculptural lighting work inspired by the Korean vowel “ㅡ.”
Its long, horizontal form embodies the simplicity of the character’s structure while simultaneously evoking the natural sensibility and formal aesthetics of the East.
The form itself materializes the pure, fundamental line of “ㅡ,”
the most basic vowel—symbolic of the origin of language and the latent potential of sound.
It is an attempt to translate the possibility of speech into a visual experience within space.
The surface is finished with traditional mother-of-pearl, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.
Its luminous grain continuously reflects and transforms under both natural and artificial light. In this way,
the static line responds fluidly to time and perception, recalling a moment where language and light intersect.
Suspended by slender, nearly invisible wires, the piece appears to float in midair—functioning as a line that holds light, and as a poetic sign in space.
Moving beyond pure function, the work proposes a new point of connection between language and sensation, tradition and modernity
